This ride follows a 4WD track over the back of the Saw Back Range to the old mining town of Adamsfield and then back out again along Clear View Road.
It combines some fun, technical riding (and yes, a bit of pushing) as you climb up and descend along saw back track to Adamsfield, then you can enjoy a bit of fossicking before a much easier return route via Clear Hill Road.

Without wanting to sound biased, if anyone asked me to rank my favourite tracks in Tasmania, the first one I’d write down is the Blue Tier Descent.
You can attack this trail in several different ways, and there’s a number of other worthwhile places to explore in the nearby area if you know where to look, but at the heart of this track is 11km of gorgeous trails connecting the deserted town of Poimena and Weldborough.
The trail isn’t for the faint hearted, and inexperienced, but those who have a moderate level of riding skills will find some great technical riding amongst some beautiful forest and heathlands.Go there.

The Clarence Mountain bike park is less than 10 minutes by car out of Hobart, and the 7km cross country trail provides a superb challenge for fit-intermediate riders and above. For the rest of us mere mortals this park contains brutal sets of switchbacks that are sharp, steep, often rutted, and completely unforgiving. If you're not sure of your skills I'd recommend the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park over Clarence, but if you're up for the challenge … well here it is.

This route follows a coastal trail from Granville Harbour to Trial Harbour, but don't let that lull you into thinking this is an easy ride. Out and back you'll be climbing nearly 1000metres with pinches as steep as 15%. That said, this trail is a mountain biking mix-up nirvana for the fit and adventurous as you tackle sandy trails, flowing granite, rocky patches, mud and creeks, and of course the hills ... so many hills.

The North-South Track is a shared use track for mountain bikers and bushwalkers on the flanks of Mt Wellington, and if you're only able to ride one track on Mt Wellington, this would be a good option.
The actual North South track goes roughly downhill from the Springs, and has a combination of twisting turns, great lines, good challenges and it's all set to a surprisingly scenic backgrop. One minute you can be looking down over most of Hobart, the next you can feel a world away.
The route described here also includes connecting sections to get you onto the track from the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park and a bit of a loop down Radfords Track, which is a fun descent.
This little ride will definitely introduce you to some of Hobart’s best riding.

Way off in the North West of the State at the Tarkine Adventures site is 13kms of custom built, IMBA standard, mountain bike trails for the cycling connoisseur.
Broken up into three successive loops of increasing difficulty, there's something here for everyone, and the trails really do provide a technical challenge when you get into the black section, and some beautiful forest throughout.
However, a word of warning: I last visited in January 2010 expecting to ride groomed trails of superb standard, instead I found myself on some extremely poorly maintained track, with branches and trees down everywhere, and some of them had been down for a loonnngggg time which was a real disappointment. Oh, and whilst it is free to access the trails, there's no bike hire on site.

This mountain bike route starts and finishes in Zeehan, and in between it manages to combine the fun of cycling a 100 metre tunnel, some great riding along an old tramway line and some awesome, though technical, riding out along old gravel 4WD trails along the foothills of Mt Heemskirk. Experienced riders will love the challenge this route provides, however even moderate riders who are prepared to walk a few sections will really enjoy this ride.
