Upper Luge and Crosscut Tracks Now Open

The May 2022 edition of Making Tracks  (Hobart City Council Track Care Newsletter) reports that the Upper Luge and Crosscut (the new dedicated climbing track beside it) are finished and open.

That means two of the four new trails on the lower slopes of kunanyi/Mt Wellington being created as part of the City's Riding the Mountain plan are open and being enjoyed by riders, walkers and runners.

The newsletter also reports that the contractors (Next Level Mountain Bike) are making good progress on the construction of Rocky Wheel'n and Free Wheel'n, which will establish a riding link from the Bracken Lane area to the Springs.

Trails on Mt Nelson (Bicentenial Park) opened to bikes.

The newsletter also reports that recent changes in Bicentennial Park (Mt Nelson) now allow riding on three trails to improve the recreational trail network. Mt Nelson Signal Station to Enterprise Road is now shared use, as is Rialannah Track, which traverses Rialannah Road to Signal Station Track and Lambert Rivulet Track has also become shared use, but riders will only be permitted to ride uphill.

These measures are part of a commitment to creating tracks and trails that are accessible to a wide range of walkers, runners and riders.
