If you're heading over to the West Coast, then this would have to be the number one ride on your agenda.  The route follows an old railway line through some beautiful forests to the 114m Montezuma Falls.  The route can be broken into a number of sections from a short (11km) out and back ride along a gentle, easy to ride trail from the Northern end of the track though to a 55km out and back epic starting and ending in Zeehan.

The core of the ride is the 14km section (each way) from Melba Flats to Montezuma Falls where you'll get to play in the mud, race 4WD's, plunge through deep washouts and really get some serious mountain biking in.  Finally, for the well prepared and adventurous the final 8kms from Melba Flats to Zeehan crosses through button grass plains providing expansive views which you'll have plenty of time to enjoy as you push, bash and swim your bike along what was once a railway line.

This 26km rail trail follows an abandoned railway line between Scottsdale and Billycock Hill weaving its way through lovely farmland and a bit of Scottsdale industry for the first 10kms and then some amazing cuttings and forests as it winds its way up Billycock Hill for the final 16km. With occasional glimpses out over the valley below, and a bit of well interpreted history lying on the side of the track this trail makes a great ride from those just looking to do a few kilometres with the kids through to those willing to tackle the full length out and back.

Fern Tree, Mount Wellington

This has to be one of the easiest and best mountain bike trails near Hobart for those just wanting to go for a social cruise or family ride.

It follows the water pipe from Fern Tree out to near its start at the Wellington Fall weir 12kms away. The ride itself is very scenic including some lovely bush sections and ending with increasingly great views out to Cathedral Rock on your left, and has plenty of places to explore along the way including silver and Wellington falls.

The route imperceptibly gains about 200 metres in height on its way out towards the weir, making the return ride particularly pleasurable and easy.

This short ride follows a section of the Tasmanian Trail from Railton to Sheffield and is on an old railway line for most of the way.  As such the trail makes for fairly easy riding as it passes through surprisingly pleasant bushland, plantations and farmland.
Railton and Sheffield make great places to explore, as do Sykes Sanctuary and Stoodley Plantation along the way.

Risdon Vale Sports Ground (Car Park)
The Risdon Vale Trail is a short 2km XC loop built as part of a local initiative by the Risdon Vale Bike Collective and Blue Hill Trails. As it was built by young locals (under the guidance of a professional trail builder) it is a pretty solid achievement.

This is probably more a trail for local riders looking for some new trails or, rather than interstate or visiting riders. The Bike Park is pretty impressive and incorporates dirt jumps and a pump track

This route ties together some very easy cycling along the Ulverstone to Turners Beach cycleway and nearby backroads with the chance to go play on some pretty darn good singletrack in a mountain bike park on private land off Stubbs Road.  Some may wish to just do one or the other, but combined they make an enjoyable ride … Allowing you to stretch both your legs and your skills.

The Tangara Trail is an almost invisible web of interconnecting trails between Seven Mile Beach and South Arm.  It often weaves between property boundaries and heads along quiet roads, beaches and bush trails.  There is good tangara trail signage all over the area, so with a bit of help from the website and a sense of adventure you really could just go trail chasing.

The route described here knits together some of the best sections of the trail, but throws in a few extra bits as well to make a nice figure of eight ride that will give even the most experienced cyclist a good day out.

The Dmoain XC track is a pleasant little 2.5km shared used trail, constructed by Dirt Art in 2016 with mountain bikers in mind.  It provides a fantastic reason to head up to the Queens Domain for a quick burst with your friends when the trails call and the Meehan or Mt Wellington is too far away.  While all levels of riders will enjoy this trail, it makes for a great introductory ride with friends and family who are new to mountain biking.  You can just drive up and enjoy this short trail or you can combine it with Soldiers Walk and many other trails around the Domain for an hour or more of exploration.

Hidden away in the hills above Launceston, The Trevallyn Nature Recreation Area now has one of the newest and nicest sections of purpose built single track in Tasmania.   With 8kms of dedicated single track stretching from the Gorge Road to the Hoo Hoo hut, this is where you're inevitably going to start any play in the park, however if you're a little more adventurous and have a little more time, then don't overlook the other multiple use trails in the reserve.  There's kilometres of trails out there for those looking for a more old school Tasmanian experience.
