July Event Updates

June's been a quiet month for new additions to the event scene.

Launceston Mountain Bike Club has added a new social ride out to Baker's Beach on August 4, making it one of the busiest days of the year when it comes to deciding what to do.  You get to chose between Rogaining Tasmania's Hobart Metrogaine (foot only), a Dirt Devils Enduro, the Ben Lomond Descent (multisport), the Budget Fun Run (running) and now the Baker's Beach social ride.  Hard choice.

The only other day of the year that I know that has that many clashes is October 27 where you have to choose (and it is a very hard choice) between getting an early view of the Hellfire Cup Trails at a Dirt Devils XC event, heading up North and competing in the Cradle Coast Mountain Bike Mountain Bike Club's Inaugural Cranky Penguin MTB Marathon or maybe, for something completely different, the inaugural Launceston Cataract Multisport Challenge.

Don't get me wrong ... it's great to have so many options ... but how to choose, how to choose ...

Also quietly happening without too much advanced notice is the LMBC Cyclocross events.  The last two events were only advertised in their newsletter with a couple of days notice, but I managed to get up to one (see race report here) and it was awesome.  Subscribe to the LMBC newsletter and facebook page for notifications.

So not much has been added to the calendar, but there's still lots there, so if you're looking for inspiration over the next few weeks and months check it out and get out on your bike.  If for no other reason than that I desperately need some more riders out there that ride as slowly as I do.

Finally, worth a big mention is that a Trail Information Night is being held at Irish Murphy's in Salamanca on the 9th of July at 7pm in the function room.

This info session aims to cover everything from trail building and volunteering and how to get involved along with whats on around Tasmania with regards to events, social rides and places to ride. Its a great opportunity to come along and ask questions. This event is being put on by volunteers with no vested interest apart from encouraging people to ride, get into riding and/or get involved in trail development and maintenance.

Sounds like a night worth heading to.  For more details start here.
